Termites eat wood to gain nutrition and energy, but they can’t digest it themselves. Special protozoa live in the gut of every termite, breaking down the cellulose so that the termite can absorb the nutrients. The active ingredient kills these protozoa, effectively destroying the termite’s ability to obtain any nutrients from its food. The more it eats, the more it starves. Worker termites bring the food for other members of the population, and those being fed by the worker termites can also be affected. Other termites will feed on either the mulch or the dead termites and become affected. The overall result is a reduction of termite activity around your home. |
